What are the advantages of linerless technology
Compared with other adhesive labels, linerless, self-adhesive labels (including linerless labels) do not require any carrier material, the so-called liner.
These are roll labels with no separation layer between the adhesive and the label material.
In terms of production, this means: label manufacturers apply a silicone-containing release layer directly on the label surface to prevent adhesive roll labels from sticking together during or after rolling. Carrier-free self-adhesive labels made of paper and film can be obtained in rectangular form from a roll as continuous paper. Individual labels can be separated from each other by perforations, or after the printing process, they can be cut through a direct thermal printer with a cutter.
Linerless labels have several ecological and economic advantages:
If the carrier material is omitted, waste-free marking can be performed. All the materials on the roll are used up. The backing paper does not need to be produced separately, nor does it need to be treated as hazardous waste as the residue of label printing. Less waste incineration means less carbon dioxide emissions. In addition, the lower roller weight has transportation advantages.
Due to the reduced material thickness, more adhesive labels can be accommodated on the roll. A roll of labels can add up to 60% of the material, so the paper change interval is significantly longer. At the same time, because the backing paper accounts for 40% of the label roll diameter, it reduces the need for storage space.
